Unit 10: Professional Application of the Psychological and Spiritual Aspects of Healing

Looking at my ratings based on Unit 3, I would say they have been basically the same. If anything they have gone up. My spiritual, physical, and psychological well-being has seemed to go up a little bit.  I think my spiritual and psychological are the same but my physical has changed a bit. I still seem to be doing the same things I was doing back in Unit 3 so that’s why those two have still stayed the same. I would say my physical score has gone up a little because I have been putting more physical exercise in my life on a daily. I love how working out makes you feel and I am going to continue to make sure physical exercise is in my weekly schedule.  I would say I have defiantly made progress based on my goals. From the beginning I have always thought I have been good health wise. But after taking this class I know health and wellness is extremely important in your everyday life and you need it in order to be able to function. I have made sure exercise and mediation are in my weekly life. I think I have implemented the activities I chose for my well-being. Making exercise a daily thing has definitely made a difference in my health and how I feel afterward. Sometimes you may think you are great health wise but what people don’t realize is that you can always improve your health. And I think I am doing that. I have developed a well improved being. I have realized that health is extremely important and it’s important you take care of your body in a good manner. At the same time it has been difficult, I have stuck by it since the beginning and don’t regret it one bit. I will make sure I keep up with my health really well so that way I can feel 110% and not regret anything. The more you exercise and make health goals, then the more you are going to feel better and its going to improve your health.

Unit 9: Personal Application of the Psychological and Spiritual Aspects of Healing

I.Introduction:
Why is it important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychologically, spiritually and physically? What areas do you need to develop to achieve the goals you have for yourself?
As a health and wellness major it is very crucial that you’re maintaining your overall wellness in a good manner. Being that advocate for someone it’s important that you have good health spiritually, physically and psychologically. If you are not being that role model for someone than how do they know what the right thing to do is? By having that good mental health, spiritual health and being fit you are able to show that it is possible to become anyone you want to be as long as you try and push for it. For me it is important to feel complete health wise. If you don’t feel good then you are not going to be that person you would be as if you were feeling good. It’s always important you make sure your feeling up to par with yourself health wise. Making sure I have good spirits is always a goal in my life. By having good spirit’s you are a positive person and everything around you is turning into a positive thing. If you aren’t then nothing goes right and it’s all negative. In life you can’t make it through anything if you aren’t anything but positive (Dacher, 2006).  For me I must make sure I have faith and I am positive. Having those two qualities in your life it will get you through anything.
II.Assessment:
How have you assessed your health in each domain? How do you score your wellness spiritually, physically, and psychologically?
Looking at my overall health and wellness I would say I am in really good health. As a positive person I am always looking at the positive things in life. So when it comes to health and I am not dying then I am doing fairly well. I was always one to say be thankful for the life you live and for the health you are in. Because there is always someone out there worse off than you. Life is too short to be dwelling on the negative things in life and wishing for something when there are more people out there that are begging to stay alive. Looking at my wellness spiritually I would say I have really good spirits. I have always been the type of person to have faith in myself. In order to get through life and any obstacle you have to come cross faith is the only way that’s going to keep you going. Looking at me physically I am a very active person. I get lots of exercise having a full time job, cleaning the house, and going to school. I am a pretty active person and I wouldn’t change that for anything. My psychological wellness could always be better than what it is but I try my best to manage stress well and do exercises that help. Overall looking at my health in each category I would say I could always improve on any of them. No matter if you think your good in life, there is always that one thing that you can improve on and try to maintain better. I will do my best to make it a goal to become a better person by making sure these categories reach its best results.

III.Goal development:
List at least one goal you have for yourself in each area, Physical, Psychological (mental health) and Spiritual.
I have always been the type of person to always have goals in my life. Having goals has always meant to me that I am making a challenge for me to overcome. Once I meet the goal then I mastered a huge goal in my life and I can get through anything. One physical goal that I have is to work out every day for 30 minutes. Weather I got to go gym or work out at home I want to make it a goal to be able to fit it in my schedule every day for 30 minutes. One psychological goal I have for myself is to do yoga every night before I go to bed. I find if you do exercises that help you mentally before bed then you can sleep better. I love the feeling of being able to go to sleep peacefully and not have to worry about anything. Reading the bible a little bit everyday can definitely be a spiritual goal for me. I love being able to read the bible and talk to God. Being able to do that on a daily basis is a great way to relax you and gets your spirit’s up.  Being able to make goals in life is good for anyone. I think as many people grow up many people are starting to realize that having goals are important in life. They make you a better person in the end and make you want to set goals in your life so you can challenge yourself (Dacher, 2006).
IV.Practices for personal health:
What strategies can you implement to foster growth in each of the following domains; Physical, Psychological, and Spiritual. Provide at least two examples of exercises or practices in each domain. Explain how you will implement each example.
For my physical wellness I will keep working out 30 min each day but work on one exercise for 15 min and another one for another 15 min. For example I will run for 15 min and then work on some crunches for another 15 min. That way I will get two exercises in on one time and that way I am not working one body part too much.  For my Psychological exercises I will make sure I get meditations exercises in. For example I would do yoga for 15 min and then do some Pilates. By doing two different kinds of exercises in 30 min you are getting a variety of exercises in and working yourself good. For spiritual exercises I would continue to what I am already doing.  I will read the bible for 15 min and listen to a sermon for the other 15 min.

V.Commitment:
How will you assess your progress or lack of progress in the next six months? What strategies can you use to assist in maintaining your long-term practices for health and wellness?
Being organized is something that I have to have in order to make it through life. Making to-do lists is always something I have done. For me if I am organized and write it down then I know I can for sure get it down and it’s crossed off the list. Being able to assess my progress in the next six months I am going to make a calendar. I am going to put on their all the stuff I need to do to help me health wise. If I make a calendar of what needs to be done then I will be able to tell if I have progressed or if I haven’t. Making it a habit to maintain practices for my long term health is something that is going to remain a goal for me until it becomes a habit. Making it a habit meaning my exercises are done on a daily and it is something I don’t even think about. I just do it and see the results of it after. By making a work out calendar and making sure they are done on a daily basis will help me in it becoming a habit. Once it is a habit I will for sure be able to see the positive affects it has on me and my body.

Unit 8: Optimal Well-being: Psychological, Spiritual and Physical Keys to Health and Thriving

After reviewing the two exercises that I thought were most beneficial I picked The Loving Kindness exercise and subtle mind exercise. I think these two exercises are very beneficial but not just for me, for anyone. I think if people really tried hard to do these exercises they would see a difference in their everyday life as much as I did. After doing both of these exercises they both were good ones to practice. They both really calm you down and set you refreshed afterward. I would recommend these to anyone. I think if anyone put their mind to doing exercises to help with mental fitness than these two are good ones to do. Anyone can try these and really notice a difference in how it makes you feel. I would say to implement these practices in your personal life you have to try hard to make it a goal every day. Make a calendar of practicing these exercises on a daily for 30 min. If you make it a goal to do it every day then you are fostering that mental fitness and helping you and your body. If a person makes goals and achieves them then you are at least trying and are helping your mind physically, mentally and emotionally. I think at the end you will see how much of a difference it changed your body and yourself in a positive way.

Unit 7: Current Trends and Research Supporting the Mind-Body-Spirit Paradigm

After doing the The Meeting Asclepius exercise I felt very relaxed and relieved. With any kind of exercise like this I always feel like a new person afterward. It makes you feel whole and refreshed and like you keep want to continue the exercise just to feel that way.  I felt like this exercise was also comforting as I was doing it. Whenever you get that comforting feeling it’s a feeling that you want to get because it makes you feel relaxed. Mindfulness and meditation can do a lot on your body. When doing any type of relaxation exercise you are relaxing your mind, and body and you are clearing your mind. Practicing meditation or any kind of exercise that is going to foster your health is always a good thing. I would recommend anyone to do these exercises on a daily basis so it can help increase your health and wellbeing. By doing this you will see a difference in your body as a whole. What the saying means is a person cannot guide or teach someone without experiencing or knowing the information. Without the necessary knowledge it is not right to lead people into what you do not know. This saying is very important when pertaining to health and wellness. Knowledge in the world of health is very important and is crucial to serve properly. As a health and wellness professional it is your duty to be experienced and informational when it comes to topics in your field. As professionals we must also development our own minds, making them grow and enhance mentally. By doing this we are able to develop our professional and personal lives.

Unit 6: Exercises for Mind-Body-Spirit Wellness and Healing

During the Loving Kindness exercise I felt relieved and refreshed. I found it to be very effective when trying to calm the mind and body. This exercise, used to relieve anger, can be very beneficial to one’s emotional state.  After practicing the exercise a sense of love and passion came through me. It made me realize the importance of kindness and universal love.  In the Integral assessment I myself important questions that were crucial for my health development. I found the assignment to be very beneficial to me because it brought up topics that I needed to address. From the assignment I learned a lot about me and my mind. It may seem like I have everything under control, but after doing this assessment I realized that I have areas to focus on. One area of my life that I need to focus on more is the psychospiritual element. I feel this area needs my attention more because it is not as developed as I would like. In order for me to greater develop this area I need to introduce exercises to better develop this area. Practices like loving kindness and using the subtle mind are a couple of ways to expand my mind’s capacity.

Unit 5: The Key Role of Thought in Wellness and Healing

After listening to The Loving Kindness and Subtle mind exercise I thought both were similar. When listening to the Loving Kindness exercise I felt like I could get into easily and automatically felt relaxed. After listening to the Subtle mind exercise I automatically thought to myself that it sounds just like The Loving Kindness exercise and it was very similar. Both of the exercises were the soft voice relaxing exercises. The kind of exercise where all you have to do is relax and everything else falls into place. When it comes to the Loving Kindness exercise I liked getting right into it and feeling very relaxed after the exercise. When it comes to the Subtle mind exercise I love the fact that breathing was involved. Anytime breathing is involved and you are exercising that it makes you feel so much more relaxed. As for any kind of exercise like these two, I would recommend them to anyone and I would have to say they are very beneficial for anyone that wants relaxation. After finishing both of these exercises I couldn’t believe how I felt afterward. It’s the kind of feeling that you get after you work out and it makes you want to keep coming back. It’s the refreshed feeling and feeling like a new person. I will definitely be doing these in the future whenever I want relaxation. When it comes to spiritual wellness, mental wellness and physical wellness I believe they all come together and work as one. They are all connected somehow and work together. When you are mentally stable then you’re spiritually and physically stable. I believe that if you are feeling stressed and down then it’s going to affect you physically, spiritually and mentally. It all works together when you think about it. When it comes to my personal life all three of these will still be connected. For example, if you are going through happiness in your life and everything is falling into place then you mind is happy which makes you physically well and spiritually too. Anything you are going through in your life affects your mind first and then everything else is that same way.

Unit 4: The Mind-Body-Spirit Paradigm

After listening to the Loving Kindness exercise I was most definitely relaxed. Whenever I listen to exercises that have to do with calming yourself then I automatically get relaxed and feel relief. As for anyone, relaxation is important for anyone and everyone. Most people don’t realize, but relaxation is important and it is important that you are helping yourself by doing exercises that will help you get relaxed. I would most definitely recommend this exercise to anyone. I have always thought meditation and exercises like these are helpful and make a difference in relaxation if you let them.  I would tell anyone to use this exercise as the results are a positive outcome.  The concept of mental workout is strengthening your mind with exercises that are challenging to your brain. By working out our brains and minds we are able to expand our thought and brain capacity. In order to produce growth in our minds we must thrive to strengthen our brains. To implement exercises in our daily lives means to bring activities in your routines that work your brain. These types of activities are very important to help our minds grow. As we get older our brain function starts to slow down. In order for our brains to remain functioning properly and at its best, we have to work our brains and minds out.

Unit 3: The Mind-Body Connection

My physical well-being is a 7 because I am pretty active. I get lots of exercise with my busy life. My spiritual wellbeing is an 8. I have always been the type of person to have plenty of faith in myself. In order to keep going with life you have to have faith and my faith is a huge part of my life. My psychological well-being is an 8. I have always been confident as a person and always will be. Being who you are and having confident is one huge key in life. I have always been the type of person to have goals in life. Having goals is not only helping you work towards something but you are bettering yourself and making yourself a better person just by setting them. One of my physical goals is to work out more. I have always been one to work out but keeping the schedule is the hard part with my busy life. I am making a goal to really try hard to keep up my schedule with working out. I love being active and I love the outcome afterward. Being more closer to God would be my spiritual goal. My psychological goal would be to practice more stress relieving exercises. I love the feeling of doing an exercise and feeling the results afterward. I am going to make it a goal to try to do those exercises more and maybe I will be less stressed. When it comes to moving towards goals you can definitely use some exercises or activities to help you with those. Some would be yoga, exercising, and meditation. All of these activities help keep high well- being and keeps you motivated. When I listened to The Crime of the Century the first thing I thought of was it had the same effect as the last one. It was a good exercise for relaxing because of the soothing voice. After listening to this it really gave me a sense of relaxation and lowered my stress.

My Adventure in Relaxation

As I listened to Journey On to Relaxation I felt immediately relaxed. In the world of a busy life I have always thought relaxation is important to anyone. As a busy 21 year old that attends full time college online and works full time, relaxation is the key to keeping sane. When you don’t take time for yourself and enjoy things you love then you aren’t doing yourself any favor. Looking at past experiences, I have learned the hard way when it comes to time management and relaxation. Living in the fast lane will eventually wear on your body and affect you emotionally and physically. There are so many different ways for you to relax and relieve stress that can be beneficial to your body. Doing activities like meditation and yoga are two simple ways to help your body.  Activities like these seem small and unimportant, but in reality they have a big impact on our body and mind. For me utilizing relaxation techniques is a must in order to maintain the best focus on my goals. Having listened to Journey On to Relaxation, it has helped me better understand the benefits of relaxation.
